Welcome to October! If you haven’t heard yet, we’ve completely overhauled the bored in vancouver website and are in the process of adding more content, updating everything, and providing you with more awesome things to do in Vancouver.

We’re excited to share our usual monthly events calendar, with the bonus addition of a concert & comedy listings. But, aside from all the updates we’ve also got the usual stuff going, including our list of the top 11 things happening in Vancouver this weekend. Check it out below!

 

Harvest Haus Oktoberfest

Where: Queen Elizabeth Plaza
What is it: A new Oktoberfest experience in Vancouver that’s full of drinking, pretzels, and girls and guys in traditional German outfits. Tickets are selling out fast but there are still some available. Tickets include a four hour Oktoberfest-inspired seating with access to food, beer, music, and more.

Perogy Night in Vancouver

What is it: Amazing home-made perogies served from 5-8pm at the Ukranian centre. Delicious food, a community atmosphere, and lots of extra sour cream. You can even get take out if you don’t feel like waiting in line, but eating in is a way better experience.

Potter’s House of Horrors

What is it: Take a trip out to Surrey to kick off the spookiest month of the year in style at The Potter’s House of Horrors opening up for the first time this year. A pleasant garden is turned into a maze of terror with actors, scary things, and stuff that will make you have nightmares. Just try not to scream.

Harlequin Hypnosis Show

What is it: At The Harlequin Hypnosis Show you can enjoy a night of hypnosis, music, and entertainment that is limited only by the bounds of your imagination. Join the fun by volunteering to be hypnotized or come dressed in steampunk style.

Boobies & Weiners Show

What is it: Boobies & Wieners is back for a third year featuring immature and explicit nude art. The gallery will have over 100 artists in the show including some great work from a few American guest artists. If there’s anything Vancouver loves, it’s dirty art!

Knit City

Where: The PNE Forum
What is it: The premier fibre show in Western Canada. Lots of yarn for sale, patterns, and needles (for knitting). Food carts, demonstrations, and book signings. If you are interested in learning how to knit / crochet / spin, this is the place to be this weekend.

Doors Open Vancouver

When: Saturday, October 3rd
Where: All over Vancouver
What is it: What goes on beyond the closed doors of City Hall????? Probably not very much interesting things aside from seeing how clean their fridge is, but you can have a chance to check out the inner workings of City Hall and other government buildings at this year’s Doors Open event.

Deja Vu Vintage Market

Where: The Pipe Shop Building, North Vancouver
What is it: Over 30 Vintage Vendors will be filling The Pipe Shop with their amazing collection of vintage furniture, home & garden decor, antiques, collectibles, jewelry, home baking, handmade & vintage inspired gifts.

Weird Al Karaoke

When: Saturday, October 3rd
Where: Little Mountain Gallery (195 East 2th Avenue)
What is it: Hilarious Vancouver comedians perform their ORIGINAL Weird Al-style parodies of popular songs then sing them LIVE in front of you! Just $10 for a solid lineup of local funny men and women. Starts at 9pm.

Psych Fest

When: Saturday, October 3 (all day, all night)
Where: Hindenburg (23 West Cordova)
What is it: An all-day, all-night music festival with bands such as Ancestors, Midday Veil, Wooden Indian Burial Ground, Crosss, and more. Psych stands for psychedelics, so let’s make that clear. “Envision 20 bands – all day and all night, crescendoing and intertwining from one set to the next in a constant stream of uninterrupted mantras.”

The Sunday Service

When: Sunday, October 4
Where: The Fox Cabaret
What is it: Devotees of the Sunday Service have come to love their sidesplitting 2-hour-long performance and have made it Vancouver’s longest-running independent improv comedy show. Broken up into to two halves of quick-witted, absurd, and hilarious performances.
