The hike everyone loves to hate, the infamous Grouse Grind, is officially opening for the 2017 hiking season this Saturday, June 17 from 6:15 am until 7:30 pm! The opening has been delayed due to the high snow pack and then trail upgrades by Metro Vancouver. Now, the Grind is ready to go and your thighs and calves are ready to hate you.
In case you didn’t know, the Grouse Grind is a 2.9-kilometre trail up the face of Grouse Mountain, commonly referred to as “Mother Nature’s Stairmaster.” It’s hard as heck and more of a work out than a hike in nature, but you get a huge sense of accomplishment after finishing the thing.
Opening times for the trail will be from 6:15 am to 7:30 pm, but this will change as the season progresses to adjust to daylight hours.
If you’re planning on tackling the grind, don’t forget about the $10 tram ride down. Or, you can turn around and take the BCMC trail down the mountain if you’re cheap to pay the ticket down. But, for the love of all that’s good, don’t walk down the Grind itself. Unless you’ve lost all will to go on, please don’t walk backwards down the Grind. People will not be pleased.
