Victoria’s Ska & Reggae Festival

Who’s performing? The Boom Booms, Tarrus Riley, Dean Fraser, Blak Soil Band, Mad Caddies, The Kints, Los Furios, and more… (full lineup)
Where is it being held: Various locations around Victoria
How much for tickets:  ~$20 per event depending on the artist
How much is camping? No camping.
What to expect: A diverse mix of ska and reggae acts in various venues around Victoria to keep you dancing all night

Vancouver International Jazz Festival

When is it? June 22 – July 2, 2017
Who’s performing? Seu Jorge (tribute to David Bowie), Antibalas, Kandace Springs, Ziggy Marley (full event listings)
Where is it being held: Various locations in Vancouver (e.g. Frankie’s Jazz Club, Performance Works)
How much for tickets:  No festival passes, you’ll have to pay per performance at various venues around Vancouver. Tickets range from $22-$50. A lot of free events outdoors in public places as well.
How much is camping? No camping.
What to expect: The smooth sounds of jazz.

Tall Tree Music Festival

When is it? June 23 – June 26, 2017
Who’s performing?
Tokyo Police Club, Shapeshifter NZ, East Star All Stars, Beats Antique Live, DJ Nu-Mark (full lineup)
Where is it being held: Browns Mountain, Port Renfrew, BC
How much for tickets: Festival pass: $200, Camping Pass: $60 (you can also buy single day tickets)
What to expect: local talent, no negative energy, a community event that takes place on the side of a mountain near the Juan de Fuca provincial park.

Who’s performing? 
The Chainsmokers, Wiz Khalifa, Partynextdoor, Dillon Francis, Ty Dolla $ign, Yellow Claw (full lineup)
Where is it being held: Holland Park, Surrey
How much for tickets: 2 day passes: $200, 1 day pass $120
How much is camping? No camping
What to expect: A popular festival in the middle of the city with a stacked lineup of amazing DJs, rappers, and those in between.

Basscoast

The Funk Hunters, Smalltown DJs, Sango, Quantic, J. Phlip, and more (full lineup)
Where is it being held: Merritt, BC
How much for tickets: Tickets are already sold out, so time to start scouring Craigslist. Read through this to make sure you’re getting a legit ticket: https://basscoast.tickit.ca/transfers 
How much is camping? Included in your ticket or splurge for $800 or $1000 for luxury tents, $1500+ for cabins.
Who should go: People who like electronic music, psychedelics, dancing, smaller festival settings, local DJs, good times and art.

Vancouver Island Musicfest

Barenaked Ladies, Emmylou Harris, Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Bruce Cockburn, and more… (full lineup)
Where is it being held: Comox Valley Fairgrounds
How much for tickets: Day passes cost: $99 – $110
How much is camping? Camping is already sold out, so you’ll need to get a hotel or something nearby.
What to expect: An intimate musical experiences in a natural setting on the Island that’ll give you the feeling that “everything’s gonna be alright”

Starbelly Jam Music Festival

Where is it being held: Crawford Bay, BC

What to expect: A laid back festival put on by a community-minded group of volunteers with great food, great people, lots of happy kids, and room to play.

Where is it being held: Kelowna, BC

What to expect: Not just a music festival, this beach party in Kelowna features tons of DJs, musicians, sports (volleyball, wakeboarding, skateboarding, BMX) and lots of other fun stuff.

Vancouver Folk Music Festival 2017

What to expect: Remember the Merrit Mountain Music Festival? Expect something similar with country music, cowboy hats, short shorts, and lazing by the river…

Wolf Parade, Austra, Five Alarm Funk, Bear Mountain, Psychic Ills
Where is it being held: Rock Creek, BC

Camping? Camping options available for $33+ or RV site pass for $67
What to expect: A unique festival in a breathtaking setting next to the Kettle Valley River, which most people spend the day tubing down between musical acts

Where is it being held: Victoria, BC

How much is camping? No camping.
What to expect: Victoria residents know how to party. More laid back and fun than other festivals. Good way to end off the summer with a BANG!

Westward Music Festival

Who’s performing?
 A Tribe Called Red, Pup, Vince Staples, Hannah Georgas, Bishop Briggs, Youngblood, Dear Rouge
Where is it being held: Vancouver, BC
How much for tickets: All access wristband = $224.50, Individual shows cost ~$15 – 30
How much is camping? No camping.
What to expect: A new music festival in the heart of Vancouver taking place across 15 live music events with multi-genre lin-ups at venues including the Vogue, Biltmore Cabaret, and Red Truck Brewery.

Bummer, these festivals are cancelled for this year:

  • Squamish Festival (we’ll never give up hope for its return)
  • Rock the Shores 2017 – postponed until 2018
  • Pemberton Music Festival – ouch, this one hurts.
