Wow, there’s a lot going on this weekend in Vancouver! We’ve got the start of night market season, a few craft markets, and some exciting Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Friday Night Perogie Dinner

When: Friday, May 5 from 5 – 8pm
Where: 154 E. 10th Ave, Vancouver.
What is it: Enjoy a heaping plate full of delicious, handmade perogies in this community-oriented event. There is usually a line up of our hungry patrons, so coming early is highly recommended! (more info)

North Vancouver Shipyards Market

When: Every Friday night, starting May 5
Where: Lower Lonsdale, North Vancouver
What is it: The weekly summer night market on the North Shore with live music, a beer garden, (A LOT of) food, art, music… Dogs are allowed and you can by things like jewelry, clothing, baking, organic meats, and much more. (more info)

Casa de Amigos – Cinco de Mayo Celebration

When: Friday, May 5 – Saturday, May 6
Where: Robson Square, Downtown Vancouver
What is it: A Cinco de Mayo celebration featuring live entertainment, traditional folk dancers, Luchador Wrestlers, authentic cuisine and beverages. 19+ event, fully licensed. (more info)

The Empire Strikes Back: Burlesque Adventure

When: Friday, May 5
Where: Rio Theatre (1660 East Broadway)
What is it: Ever wanted to see a sexy Darth Vader? Vancouver’s favourite ‘nerdlesque’ troupe, the Geekenders, return to East Van’s Rio Theatre with a revamped version of their smash hit take on The Star Wars Classic: The Empire Strikes Back. (more info)

Got Craft? Spring Edition

Free Comic Book Day

Where: Comic book stores in Vancouver!
What is it: Free Comic Book Day is a single day – the first Saturday in May each year – when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely FREE (more info)

Petsmart National Adoption Weekend

When: All weekend
Where: Petsmart locations in Vancouver
What is it: Meet your new best friend at PetSmart Charities of Canada’s National Adoption Weekend, taking place May 5-7 at all PetSmart stores across Canada. (more info)

Teen Angst Night

When: Saturday, May 6
Where: Fox Cabaret (2321 Main Street)
What is it: A popular comedic reading series that’s been running since 2000. Readers can share anything (poetry, songs, letters, journals, diaries, essays, stories, plays, lists, etc), as long as they’re awkwardly hilarious! (more info)

Burlesque Long Form

When: Saturday, May 6
Where: Rio Theatre (1660 East Broadway)
What is it: Vancouver’s most celebrated burlesque performers will have one chance to perform a full ten minute act. Expect outlandish props, projections, and over- the-top narratives as a stunning variety of unique and spectacular burlesque performers push the boundaries in Burlesque Long Form!  (more info)

Illumination Night Market

THE SHOW at Emily Carr
