What is it: Japan kicked things off this year with an amazing spectacle of light, soon we’ll find out how the UK and Canada stack up in this annual fireworks display held in English Bay. (more info)

Where: Davie Street, West End
What is it: The biggest event in the West End to kick off Pride Weekend – with multiple stages, lots of food, art installations, dancing, a silent disco, and much more… (more info)

Caturday at Queen Elizabeth Park

When: Saturday, August 5, 2017
Where: Queen Elizabeth Park (near Cambie and 33rd)
What is it: A collective of cat lovers and cats coming together to enjoy the sunshine and partake in some cat-napping and socializing. (more info)

Where: Oppenheimer Park (400 block of Powell Street)
What is it: The largest Japanese Canadian festival in the country and the longest running community arts celebration in Vancouver. (more info)

39th Annual Pride Parade & Sunset Festival

When: Sunday, August 6, 2017
Where: Denman Street and Sunset Beach area
What is it: The Pride Parade is a staple of the Vancouver summer calendar, and with 130+ parade entries, there will lots of amazing floats you won’t want to miss. Come for the amazing floats, fun colours, and to show what pride means to you. After, head to Sunset Beach to keep things going with live music, food, and entertainment. (more info)

Vancouver Mural Festival Street Party

When: Saturday, August 12, 2017
Where: Main St between E 12th & E 7th Ave. and the alley between Main + Quebec St.
What is it: Up to 100,000 people are expected to visit the area to view the completed murals and take in live art, music, markets. (more info)

Blackout Night Sky Festival

When: Saturday, August 12, 2017
Where: Museum of Anthropology (UBC)
What is it: Blackout brings together storytellers, musicians, artists and astronomers to share their relationships to the skies. Witness the peak of the Perseid meteor shower and explore the museum until midnight during this all-ages event. (more info)

The Fair at the PNE

PNE Donut Dash 5K Run

What is it: Vancouver’s tastiest 5K Run where runners will be reenergized with tasty Fair treats throughout the course, including mini donuts, cotton candy and more! (more info)

Vancouver Garlic Festival

When: Sunday, August 20 from 10am – 3pm
Where: Terra Nova Rural Park, 2771 Westminster Highway
What is it: Ever wanted to try ice cream with garlic? Now you can, at the 9th annual Garlic Festival at Terra Nova Rural Park. Also includes garlic goods, family activities, and cooking demonstrations. (more info)

Solar Eclipse 2017

When: Monday, August 21
Where: H.R. MacMillan Space Centre
What is it: The most exciting and anticipated astronomical event of the year, the solar eclipse on August 21st is going to be spectacular. From 8:45am-noon The Space Centre will have a selection of solar telescopes, live streams, sun projections, and, of course, solar eclipse glasses for safe viewing. (more info)
