Nothing like a cup of delicious hot chocolate to give you a warm hug on a cold day! Starting on January 19, 2017 the seventh annual Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival is back and better than ever! This year will feature Vancouver’s best chocolatiers, pastry shops, bakeries, cafes, gelato and ice cream makers coming together to make the humble hot chocolate hotter than it has ever been before.
The Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival is the first city-wide festival of its kind in the world! This year, there will be 29 participating cafes, 27 days of chocolate, and 61 crazy flavours available across town!
Some of the more interesting flavours that can be found include:
- “CHUPACABRA” – Valrhona Abinao dark chocolate with cane sugar, cinnamon, chili and cardamom. Served at Bel Cafe.
- “THE RED TRUCK” .(flavoured with alcohol) This is a stout beer/hot chocolate collaboration with Red Truck Brewery using their popular “Dry Nibbed Stout” with its notes of coffee and chocolate. Served at Bella Gelateria.
- “A MATCHA MADE IN HEAVEN” – Drinking hot chocolate made with melted Cacao Barry Zephyer white chocolate and vanilla matcha. Served at Terra Breads.
- “DRUNKEN LOVE” – A bowl of red wine ice cream topped with a red wine reduction. Served with a rich, hot chocolate and a shortbread cookie. Served at Chocolate Arts.
A full list of the flavours available at the participating locations is on the Hot Chocolate Festival website.
If you want to go on a “Hot Chocolate Crawl” of sorts, you there is a walking map available here [PDF]. Most locations can be found in Downtown and Kitsilano.
