It’s the world’s best hangover cure! The Vancouver Polar Bear Swim is back on January 1, 2017 with thousands of brave swimmers running into the bone-chilling waters of English Bay to kick off the 2017 year with a splash! Are you brave enough to take the plunge?
The 2017 Vancouver Polar Bear Swim will be taking place on Sunday, January 1 at 2:30pm. The weather forecast is calling for a mix of sun, rain, AND snow, so who knows what you’ll get!
The annual Vancouver tradition first began in 1920 with just 10 swimmers braving the cold. Now, over 2,000
crazy brave souls register each year to participate in the “swim”. Plus, you get a free commemorative button – so that’s pretty cool!
You can participate in the event by:
- Dressing-up in fancy costume
- Competing in the Peter Pantages Memorial 100 yard swim race
- Dipping your feet into the water and running out screaming
- Sitting back and watching the spectacle from a safe distance
