As we transition into Springtime in Vancouver, we can’t help but be a little more excited than usual for the weekends. Especially with sun in the forecast (well, at least for Sunday). So if you’re not busy hunting the city for the best cherry blossoms, check out some of these intriguing events happening around town. Don’t forget, Saturday is April Fool’s Day-so tread wisely, friends…

The Slush Cup

When: Saturday, April 1
Where: Grouse Mountain
What is it: Watch as competitors, attired in their most ridiculous costume, attempt to cross a pool of slush on their skis or board. There are prizes for participants, but you are more than welcome to watch safely from the sidelines! There will also be a BBQ and beer garden. (more info)

Vancouver International Burlesque Festival

When: Runs until Saturday, April 1
Where: Vancouver Playhouse
What is it: Canada’s most prestigious and longest running burlesque festival. Showcasing the finest local and international talent since 2006, the VIBF brings global talent and local superstars to downtown Vancouver every spring. (more info)

Game of Thrones Live Concert Experience

When: Saturday, April 1
Where: Rogers Arena
What is it: It’s a long way until July… Get your GOT fix with a live concert experience of all your favourite songs from the show. There will be plenty of entertainment to go with the music and advanced video technology to recreate the various realms. (more info)

Pillow Fight Flashmob!

When: Saturday, April 1 at 3pm
Where: Vancouver Art Gallery
What is it: Pillow Fight!!! Celebrate international pillow fight day the best way – with a giant pillow fight flashmob! Join hundreds of others at the art gallery for a “spontaneous” pillow fight in the middle of the street. (more info)

Sister Shop

When: Saturday, April 1 at 3pm
Where: Biltmore Cabaret
What is it: A community-based clothing and craft sale with 100% of proceeds going to support WAVAW – Rape Crisis Center. In addition to racks of rad vintage clothing to sift through, the event will also feature local DJs, handmade craftsmen items, mimosas/caesars/beer, a feminist merchandise table, and more. Fraser Valley Food Truck Fest

When: Saturday, April 1
Where: Port Moody
What is it: One of the first food truck festivals of the season! Featuring 25 handpicked food trucks, an artisan market, live music, and family entertainment. Go with an empty stomach! (more info)

Feast of Fools

When: Saturday, April 1
Where: Strange Fellows Brewing
What is it: Strange Fellows Brewing invites one and all to celebrate the absurd and join us for their inaugural Feast of Fools on Saturday April 1st from 5pm until the food runs out (but the silliness & beer will flow until 11pm) (more info)

Pancakes and Jam

When: Sunday, April 2
Where: The Woods Studio
What is it: Pancakes and Jam is an inclusive community building event / brunch / live music dance party. Get sweaty and eat pancakes, fun times! (more info)
