Surprise, surprise! Whistler Mountain will be opening early this year on Thursday, November 19th! That’s NEXT WEEK. As in, it’s WINTER TIME, time to pull out the winter parka from storage.
The one silver lining to all of this cold, wet weather is that we’re getting a good dump of snow on local mountains and Whistler is celebrating by setting their 2015 opening day a whole week earlier than originally anticipated.
If you’ve got the day off or have a few vacation days to spare (or you’re… sick…) you can get first tracks on Whistler (NOT Blackcomb) with five lifts running, including the Whistler Village Gondola, the Creekside Gondola, Emerald Express, Big Red Express and Franz’s Chair.
If you’ll remember this happened last year before the horribly warm pineapple express conditions moved in to destroy the tiny runs of snow that were available on local mountains. So, if you want to get a good season in, you better start early!
For more information about opening day, check out the Whistler Website.
No concrete news about when North Shore mountains will be opening, but Grouse has already opened up their skating pond, Cypress has received 23 cm and are itching to open, and Mount Seymour is estimating that mid-December will be their opening day.
Hope you’ve been doing your leg exercises because ski/snowboard season is ready to begin!
