The best places in town are usually the ones that no one else knows about. The hidden gems that your grandma told you about, or your best friend knew a guy who raved about it and now you’re hooked.
For us, one of the best hidden gems in Vancouver is a tiny donut shop located in the upper reaches of North Vancouver.
Harmony Donuts is a tiny shop that sells donuts, but somehow it stands out as an extra special destination in the suburbs of Vancouver. Harmony doesn’t have anything too fancy, there’s no bacon option or honey crullers. But, they do offer fresh donuts with tasty glazes and sprinkles (think Homer Simpson’s donut of choice). Plus, these donuts won’t cost you $4+ to take a bite.
Harmony Donuts is a North Van staple and has been fueling office morning meetings and hangover brunch days for over 40 years.
This hole-in-the-wall shop doesn’t have a website, so best to call in ahead if you’re really set on grabbing a dozen or two. Aside from the donuts, the shop is reminiscent of a kitschy museum of pop culture memorabilia, which is worth a visit alone. The donuts are a little bit crispy, definitely homemade, and one hundred percent better than the frozen logs they cook up at Tim Hortons. Best of all, they don’t have that the heavy/greasy feel of most donuts — so you can eat 6 and still feel great!
