Time to pack up your car and head into the country (i.e. Chilliwack or Abbotsford) to welcome the annual tulip blooms!
There are two extremely popular flower events in the Lower Mainland: Bloom in Abbotsford, and the Chilliwack Tulip Festival. Both events celebrate the stunning bloom of thousands upon thousands of tulips. It’s a great adventure away from the city and offers some pretty fantastic photo opportunities.
Chilliwack Tulip Festival
Now in its twelfth year, the Chillwack Tulip festival has grown from a couple of hundred visitors per season to nearly 30,000 after relocating to Chilliwack, to better showcase the talents of the tulip.
It’s important to note that while the Tulip Festival is officially opening on April 10, 2019, the tulip bloom will not be in full force until April 15th. Until then, there are plenty of daffodils and hyacinths to satisfy your flower needs.
The full festival runs from April 10 until May 5 (with a possible extension, depending on the flowers) and is open 7 days a week:
- Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays 9:00am to 7:00pm
- Monday – Friday 10:00am to 7:00pm
Located in Abbotsford, the Bloom Festival is another great opportunity to view rows upon rows of amazing flowers. Currently in Low Bloom season, tickets are a bit cheaper.
The crowds are no joke, so if you want to get some photos without a stranger lingering in the background, it’s best to head to the fields on a weekday, early in the morning, or later at night.
Aside from the rows and rows of pretty posies, you can enjoy food trucks, flowers to purchase, games for kids, and a lot more fun.
The full festival runs from April 15 until early May and is weather dependent:
- Hours: 9:00am to 7:30pm
Tickets to the festival are available online and released weekly on Tuesdays.
